Craig Korowski is the proprietor of a private law firm in Bolton, Massachusetts, and the moderator of the First Federated Church of Hudson. Combining these two areas of his life, Craig Korowski holds membership with the Christian Legal Society.
Committed to serving those in need, the Christian Legal Society (CLS) maintains a Legal Aid program that provides support to a 28-state network of legal aid clinics. At these clinics, which have been established and are operated independently by CLS members, volunteers furnish pro bono legal services to individuals in their communities who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. Each year, more than 8,000 people benefit from the support of these volunteer attorneys, who offer assistance with such matters as racial discrimination and denial of Social Security benefits.
A number of CLS-affiliated legal aid clinics also reach out to individuals experiencing financial hardship by conducting seminars that help community members to learn to navigate common legal issues. Past seminars have focused on such topics as landlord/tenant law, traffic law, bankruptcy filing, and housing discrimination.
Beyond legal assistance, CLS members have the freedom to provide spiritual counseling to those seeking support at their clinics. Through this counseling, individuals may find the strength to deal with personal issues that may be hampering their lives.
CLS supports the operators of its 65 affiliated legal aid clinics by helping to streamline the administrative processes of each clinic. In addition, CLS holds training workshops designed to teach participants the skills needed to volunteer at clinics.
